What is a hand blender?

Submersible blender consists of a handle with an engine and control buttons and a long nozzle equipped with sharp steel knives. As the name implies, to work it needs to be immersed in a container and held in hand.

This design may seem uncomfortable, but thanks to the high blade rotation speeds, the blender is able to grind any product in minutes or even seconds.

The blender can be used in any dish, although the appliance is often equipped with a special bowl for shredding food. In addition, the blender can be equipped with a whisk, which allows you to whip liquid and semi-liquid mixtures.

2

What is it needed for?

A high-quality submersible blender combines several devices at once: chopper, mixer, meat grinder. With its help, you can not only grind products, but also beat them, mix and grind.

The functionality of the blender can be expanded with various nozzles:

  • a nozzle with knives is used for grinding and shredding solid ingredients;
  • the whisk nozzle whips liquid products;
  • the hook nozzle allows you to knead a thick dough.

In addition, some devices have additional functions, for example, cracking ice, mill or mashed potato crush.

What can be done?

As follows from the foregoing, the hand blender has extensive functionality.

First of all, with a submersible blender you can grind products (for example, for salad) and prepare mashed potatoes. This feature will be very useful for families where there is a small child. You can also prepare fruit or vegetable puree for the purpose of their subsequent conservation and the creation of homemade preserves.

Blender will be appreciated by lovers of baking, as it is easy to beat eggs, cream or cream with it.Special nozzles will allow you to prepare the dough of the desired degree of consistency and make a lot of sweet desserts.

A powerful submersible blender with strong steel knives is able to chop meat, make minced meat, chop ice, grind nuts and cereals. It can also be used to grind spices or coffee beans.

It should be noted that the blender is indispensable when creating a wide variety of cocktails or smoothies. In general, we can say that the use of a blender is limited only by the imagination of the hostess.

3

Advantages and disadvantages

Due to its design, the hand blender has both advantages and disadvantages.

Pros:

  • has a small size, so the device can be stored in any kitchen;
  • able to cook small portions, which is convenient for everyday use;
  • can be used in any dishes;
  • due to the addition of different nozzles it has wide functionality;
  • The simple design is easy to operate and clean.

Minuses:

  • due to its low power, it sometimes does not cope well with the grinding of solid products;
  • it can be difficult to obtain a uniform consistency;
  • when working, the device must be held in hands, which may not be very convenient.
Some models of hand blenders are wireless, which can be called both a plus and a minus. The wireless model does not depend on the length of the cord, however, the operating time of such a blender is very limited.

Useful features

Many models of hand blenders are distinguished by the presence of additional useful functions. So, in many devices there is a turbo mode that allows you to start the engine at full power, and the blender will work at maximum speed.

Some models have the so-called pulsed mode: when it is activated, short breaks will occur in the blender. This mode is intended for grinding or mixing large masses of solid products, which can greatly warm the engine and damage the device.

The most modern devices are equipped with a nozzle, which allows you to squeeze juice from fruits and vegetables. There is also a vacuum pump pumping air out of sealed packages. As a rule, this function is used for long-term storage of products or their pickling.

The blender can be equipped with a small mill, necessary for grinding coffee, cereals, nuts. The volume of such a nozzle usually does not exceed 80-100 ml.

Expensive models are equipped with protection against overheating and the so-called "anti-spray", which prevents the spread of food particles throughout the kitchen.

5

Which is better - submersible or stationary?

In addition to hand blenders, stationary devices are available on the market. Such devices are a container, inside of which there are knives.

Blender typeAdvantagesdisadvantages
Submersible
  • small sizes;
  • works with small volumes;
  • any dishes can be adjusted;
  • easy to operate and wash;
  • low price.
  • sometimes can not cope with solid foods or large pieces;
  • it is difficult to obtain a uniform consistency;
  • Wireless models run out quickly
  • hard to hold while working.
Stationary
  • works without human intervention;
  • copes with solid foods better;
  • the bowl has a lid, making it more convenient to whip and mix liquid products;
  • has many speeds and built-in automatic modes.
  • It is significant and requires space in the kitchen;
  • works only in one (maximum, two) bowls;
  • cooks, as a rule, only large portions; high price.

What should I look for before buying?

Before choosing a hand blender, you need to pay attention to the following characteristics:

  • Power. It can range from 120 to 1500 watts, but the average values should be 700-800 watts. Such power is quite enough for everyday use.
  • Nozzle rotation speed. It can range from 10,000 to 19,000 rpm. Speeds can be either set or change smoothly. Usually 10-12 speeds are enough, or the functions of stepless speed adjustment.
  • Nozzle set. The main nozzle is a chopper with steel knives.Most often, a whisk nozzle and a special glass are included. In addition, you can find a nozzle for chopping ice, making mashed potatoes, kneading dough, a nozzle sieve and a nozzle grater.
  • Handle and nozzle material. The handle is usually made of plastic, while all nozzles must be made of stainless steel.
  • Type of food. The most common are wire blenders (you need to carefully look at the length of the cord). Wireless models have a higher cost, in addition, they need to be charged often.

The size of the measuring cup that comes with the kit usually does not exceed 0.6 liters. Nevertheless, this is enough to prepare small portions of food.

    I have one of the models of the submersible blender from the ones presented in the Bosch MSM 66110 ranking. It's good to make smoothies or mashed soups with it. Even frozen fruit no longer pulls well and quickly overheats. Something more solid, such as meat, does not pull at all in practice, so if a blender is needed for soft products, you can safely choose a submersible, in other cases, a bowl, without options.

  2. Angela is talking

    I use my hand blender quite often. We make milkshakes, juices with pulp, mashed potatoes and vegetables. In the harvesting season, the blender is constantly in the kitchen and works every day on the processing of apples and tomatoes, blueberries and other berries and pumpkins. A small box does not take up much space, and it takes a couple of minutes to disassemble and wash it. I am completely satisfied with them and recommend to all the housewives.

  3. Ewstach is talking

    In a double boiler, I double the vegetables, meat and fish, and then turn the blender in a bowl into mashed potatoes, adding butter, milk or water. It turns out a homogeneous aromatic tasty and sieve thing. I also make porridge, with a banana it turns out like an air cream. Only if there are gaps in the body of the submersible blender can the mass spray through them and everything can splatter around. Very uncomfortable. Cheap models are different.

  4. Inga is talking

    Oh, I also have a hand blender. I love making pumpkin soup and pumpkin casserole. Before I bought a blender, I passed a baked or boiled pumpkin through a meat grinder, but it took so long, then washed so many things after. A hand blender is quick and convenient - in the same pan where you cooked, blender everything, remove the blender and stir the dough further. And the blender just wash the nozzle and remove. Love)
